5.2 Guide: New Rare Spawns and Elites
posted 6 days ago by perculia
In the early Patch 5.2 beta, we covered new rare elites around Pandaria that dropped dinosaur mounts like Reins of the Slate Primordial Direhorn! Now that Patch 5.2 is imminent and we've tested out all phases of the Isle of Thunder, we're pleased to report that there are even more rare spawns and elites coming in 5.2! The Isle of Thunder has many rare spawns needed for Champions of Lei Shen, which drop items that can be used to summon elites for It Was Worth Every Ritual Stone.
Last week, I teamed up with Wowmartiean of Martiean's Splitleaf Girdle's fame to take down these rare spawns. Here's the video he made of all their locations and abilities, with me dying from Ra'sha's Sacrificial Dagger at the end:
Also be sure to check out Wowhead user Lore's great guide to all the rare spawns in Pandaria. His guide includes strategies for taking down all of these elites, as well as maps.

These rare elites drop items similar to what's found in Trove of the Thunder King, most notably Shan'ze Ritual Stone and Key to the Palace of Lei Shen.
Rare spawns in 5.2 have different tagging mechanics than rare spawns from 5.0. Players outside of a part can help take down a rare spawn and still get credit, as well as 15 Valor Points. However, the health of the mob will increase, as noted in the video.
There is a weekly quest, Champions of the Thunder King, that awards 150 Valor Points for killing one of each type of elite.

The Isle of Thunder has eleven rare spawns scattered around the island. - Al'tabim the All-Seeing used to be on Yojamba Isle, back when the Zandalari were friendly trolls in vanilla. He helped cloth-wearers get their tier sets.

If you have 3 Shan'ze Ritual Stone either from killing rares or looting Trove of the Thunder King, you can summon one of the nine elites on the Isle of Thunder for It Was Worth Every Ritual Stone. Depending on your class, these require several people to take down and can be pretty tough. One other type of item you may pick up on the island are Incantations. These let you summon a boss by their tombstone in the Court of Bones, and so far have yielded several Elder Charm of Good Fortune each:- Incantation of Haqin: Summons Haqin of the Hundred Spears at 38.9, 59.3. - As for the three mounts, WoW Rare Spawns noticed that theZandalari Warbringer spawn on mounts that are one of three possible colors. You then have a chance to win that Zandalari Warbringer's exact mount--the colors and mount types always match up:
