5.2 Guide: New Rare Spawns and Elites

5.2 Guide: New Rare Spawns and Elites

posted 6 days ago by perculia

In the early Patch 5.2 beta, we covered new rare elites around Pandaria that dropped dinosaur mounts like  Reins of the Slate Primordial Direhorn! Now that Patch 5.2 is imminent and we've tested out all phases of the Isle of Thunder, we're pleased to report that there are even more rare spawns and elites coming in 5.2! The Isle of Thunder has many rare spawns needed for  Champions of Lei Shen, which drop items that can be used to summon elites for  It Was Worth Every Ritual Stone.

Last week, I teamed up with Wowmartiean of  Martiean's Splitleaf Girdle's fame to take down these rare spawns. Here's the video he made of all their locations and abilities, with me dying from  Ra'sha's Sacrificial Dagger at the end:

Also be sure to check out Wowhead user Lore's great guide to all the rare spawns in Pandaria. His guide includes strategies for taking down all of these elites, as well as maps.

 Champions of Lei Shen

The Isle of Thunder has eleven rare spawns scattered around the island. Ten of these are needed for the achievement  Champions of Lei Shen, while one drops a pretty unconventional vanity item.

  • Haywire Sunreaver Construct: Mechanical that patrols the beach south of Ihgaluk Crag. (50.0, 91.6). Notable Loot:  Sunreaver Micro-Sentry
  • Mumta: Mogu caster located on top part of the terrace in the Halls of the Grand Imperion in the Court of Bones.
  • Ku'lai the Skyclaw: Zandalari troll who patrols the beach by Za'Tual, on the southwest part of the island (37.6, 83.0}. Be sure to kill the Tamed Pterrorwing first.
  • Goda: Large turtle who appears to be stuck in a tree when you come upon him in the Diremoor. (53.7, 53.1)
  • Progenitus: Saurok at the top of the highest cliff in Ihgaluk Crag, who wants to throw you off by casting  Unleash Blood. To reach his location, you'll need to jump with a speed boost or have  Skin of the Saurok on to make the gap.
  • Al'tabim the All-Seeing stands next to a starry cauldron on the northern shore by the Beast Pens. (44.6, 29.6).
    • Al'tabim the All-Seeing used to be on Yojamba Isle, back when the Zandalari were friendly trolls in vanilla. He helped cloth-wearers get their tier sets.
  • God-Hulk Ramuk was accessible during Stage 2 PTR testing, after players had broken down the outer walls of the Throne of Thunder. Located by the gate to Stormsea Landing in the Conqueror's Terrace. (61.6, 49.8}.
  • Backbreaker Uru was accessible during Stage 3 PTR testing, after players gained control of the Thunder Forge. He patrols the entrance to the Lightning Vein Mine. (38.2, 28.6).
  • Lu-Ban was accessible during Stage 3 PTR testing, after players gained control of the Thunder Forge. He is to the south of the Forge and is standing by a prized Mogu hammer (54.4, 35.8).
  • Molthor was accessible during Stage 4 PTR testing, after players gained control of Stormsea Landing. He is located in the tower above the gate.
    • Fun fact: Molthor used to be on Yojamba Isle, back when the Zandalari were friendly trolls in vanilla.
In addition, there is one more rare spawn on the island, Ra'sha. While he is not needed for  Champions of Lei Shen, he will be sought after for his  Ra'sha's Sacrificial Dagger, an item that insta-kills you on use in a bloody splatter.

These rare elites drop items similar to what's found in Trove of the Thunder King, most notably  Shan'ze Ritual Stone and  Key to the Palace of Lei Shen.

Rare spawns in 5.2 have different tagging mechanics than rare spawns from 5.0. Players outside of a part can help take down a rare spawn and still get credit, as well as 15 Valor Points. However, the health of the mob will increase, as noted in the video.

Summonable Elites:  It Was Worth Every Ritual Stone

If you have 3  Shan'ze Ritual Stone either from killing rares or looting Trove of the Thunder King, you can summon one of the nine elites on the Isle of Thunder for  It Was Worth Every Ritual Stone. Depending on your class, these require several people to take down and can be pretty tough. To learn more about the abilities and strategies for each elite, check out Rare Elites of Pandaria: Glorious.

There is a weekly quest,  Champions of the Thunder King, that awards 150  Valor Points for killing one of each type of elite.

Lightning Champion: Primal Champion: Spirit Champion: As for their loot, they appear to drop loot similar to the rare elites, most notably  Shan'ze Ritual Stone and  Key to the Palace of Lei Shen. No word yet if these weapons named after the summonable elites will be very low droprates.

Incantations:  These Mogu Have Gotta Go-gu

One other type of item you may pick up on the island are Incantations. These let you summon a boss by their tombstone in the Court of Bones, and so far have yielded several  Elder Charm of Good Fortune each:

Zandalari Rare Spawns

The Zandalari have landed on the shores of Pandaria and players can try to attack them for new mounts,  Zul'Again, reputation items, and crafting items.
