5.2 Crafted Vanity Items: Lightning-Forged Weapons, Engineering Pet
posted 3 days ago by perculia
Patch 5.2 has a lot of serious raid content, but there's also some vanity items being added to professions. Blacksmiths get to craft replica versions of all those distinctive (and sadly removed) Burning Crusade weapons, while Engineers can make a new mount and pet!
In the last PTR build, we datamined new blacksmithing plans that were named after distinctive weapons from the Burning Crusade. These BoP weapons were only craftable by Weaponsmiths, and when specializations were removed in Cataclysm, players were no longer able to learn these plans. In addition, players couldn't learn all the weapons in Burning Crusade even if they were Weaponsmiths because there were further weapon subsets, such as Master Hammersmith.
Blizzard has already told us that there will be a special Lightning Forge on the Isle of Thunder, which will be unlocked after some time has passed.
From the 5.2 PTR Patch Notes: "As the heroes conquer the Isle, they will unlock the powerful Lightning Forge, which will allow Blacksmiths to forge mighty raid-worthy items, as well as classic weapons from the past."

Right now, we have the profession spells for these new weapons, but not the actual item IDs for all of them. We'll update as we find more.

Engineering Bling
Engineers have a few new fun toys in 5.2. They require Stabilized Lightning Source, which is learned from Notes on Lightning Stabilization after completing Stabilized Lightning Source.- Pierre Pierre): 15x Stabilized Lightning Source, 15x Living Steel. BoP Cookbot pet (perhaps tradeable when caged) that also functions as a Campfire.
- Sky Claw ( Sky Claw): 30x Stabilized Lightning Source, 30x Living Steel. Two-seater mount based on tooltip text in The Sky Claw.
Blacksmithing: Lightning Forged Weapons
If you always wanted to craft iconic Blacksmithing weapons like Stormherald or Drakefist Hammer but didn't learn the plans prior to Cataclysm, it looks like you'll be able to create replica weapons in Patch 5.2 like Fireguard, Reborn! In the last PTR build, we datamined new blacksmithing plans that were named after distinctive weapons from the Burning Crusade. Crafting the Weapons
Lightning Steel Ingot, needed for all the new weapons, is a BoP item crafted from Lightning Steel Ingot.- Players learn how to craft this ingot from a quest starting with Strange Metal Ingot. It begins Lightning Steel and rewards the player with Notes on Lightning Steel and Lightning Steel Ingot.
- Lightning Steel Ingot: Create a Lightning Steel Ingot from 10 Ghost Iron Bars. In the process, you may gain additional knowledge of Ghost Iron, and discover a Blacksmithing plan you have yet to learn.
- Based on the wording and current cooldowns on expensive transmutes, it may end up with a one-day cooldown, similar to Transmute: Living Steel.
- This may refer to other 5.2 patterns, or perhaps even older patterns that became unobtainable when Weaponsmithing and Armorsmithing specializations were removed. (Unlikely, but we can dream.)
- The starter tier of replica weapons now has item IDs. It appears the weakest version of the weapons will be ilvl 463: Fireguard, Reborn. (The TBC Blacksmithing weapons came in three different ilvls too.)
Weapon Models and Costs
Similar to the original Burning Crusade weapons, some of the new replica weapons will require you to use a lesser-quality weapon as a reagent. For example, Stormherald required Deep Thunder, Thunder, Reborn is required for Deep Thunder, Reborn.Right now, we have the profession spells for these new weapons, but not the actual item IDs for all of them. We'll update as we find more.
